The Practice Bank is live.
It's the Play Bank's sibling. Where the Play Bank gives you one animated play at a time, the Practice Bank gives you the whole night: a complete practice plan, every drill drawn out, timed, and written up with the coaching points I'd give a staff. Forty-one of them as I write this, and more on the way.
You can browse all of it right now at elitehoopsapp.com/practices. No account, no app. Open any practice and print it for the clipboard.
Why I built it
The Play Bank solved one problem: a coach sees a set, wants to run it, and doesn't have an hour to draw it. The Practice Bank solves the one that comes before it.
It's 6:40 on a Tuesday. Practice is at 7. You know roughly what you want to work on, and you have a drill library full of pieces. What you don't have is the plan: which drills, in what order, for how many minutes each, and what to say during them. So you wing it, or you run the same practice you ran last week.
A practice from the bank is that plan, done. Pick the one closest to your night, print it or add it, and spend the twenty minutes you got back on the floor.
What's in it
Forty-one practices across every age I coach or get asked about:
- Kids (up to 6): a first practice for little ones, dribble games for 5 and 6 year olds, shooting at the low rim. Every kid has a ball and nobody stands in a line.
- Youth (7 to 10): first practice of the season, passing and catching basics, layups and finishing, man-to-man basics in two parts, a shooting night for 9 and 10 year olds, an evaluation day.
- Pre-teens (11 to 12): 5-Out install on night one, Flex install on day one, two-ball handles and the shell, a shooting night for 11 and 12 year olds.
- Teen (13 to 18): varsity tryouts, club tryout night, press break and transition in 90 minutes, special situations and end of game, preseason conditioning and skills, offseason shooting.
Every practice carries three labels, age group, level, and season, so you can filter straight to tryouts, or to preseason, or to beginner, and the length filter sorts them by 30, 45, 60, 90, or 120 minutes. Open one and you see every drill in order with its minutes, its setup, and its points of emphasis. Where a practice installs an offense, the plays are attached as steps, animated, right in the plan.
What it does for you
Browse and print free. Every practice has a public page. Open it, read it, print it. That part never asks for an account.
Add it to your practices with Pro. Press Save (on the web) or Add to My Practices (in the app) and the whole practice lands in your own practices: every drill, every play, every minute. It's yours to run with the live timers, reorder, swap a drill, or rename.
The plays come with it. A practice that installs 5-Out brings the 5-Out plays into your playbook at the same time, animated and ready to text to the team. Add the practice once and you have the install and the sets.
Send it to your staff. A saved practice gets the same share link as the ones you build yourself. Assistants open it on their phones with no app and no account, and the printout is one tap away.
Filter to your night. Age, level, season, and length. Tryouts in a week? Filter to tryouts. Nine year olds who can finally dribble with both hands? Youth, intermediate, 60 minutes.
On a Team Plan, it goes to the whole program. Add a practice into a shared team and every coach you've invited has it in the team's practices, current version, nothing to re-send.
How to use it
- Open the Practice Bank and filter down the left side, or search by name.
- Open a practice and read it through. Every drill has its minutes and its coaching points.
- Press Print for the clipboard, or Save to bring it into your practices with Pro. In the iOS app, the Practice Bank sits beside My Practices with the same filters and an Add to My Practices button.
One I'd start with: First Practice of the Season. It's the practice I'd run with any new youth team, and the notes say why each block is there.
What's next
The bank will keep growing the way the Play Bank has. The 41 practices up today cover the nights coaches ask me about most; if there's one you want and don't see, tell me and I'll build it.
The drills inside every practice come from the same library that powers the Instant Practice Builder, 260 of them now, so a practice from the bank and a practice you generate yourself speak the same language. A browsable Drill Bank is the next piece.
