About Elite Hoops

Elite Hoops is basketball coaching software that helps coaches design animated plays, plan practices, and share both with their players and staff. Coaches at every level use it, from youth and AAU teams to high school and college programs, in a web browser or in native apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro.

I’m Jordan Morgan, the independent developer behind Elite Hoops. I started it in 2022 to help my son learn a zone press, and I still build and support it myself through my company, Day Well Spent, LLC, based in Nixa, Missouri.

What Elite Hoops does

Elite Hoops handles the prep work of coaching basketball: drawing plays, planning practices, organizing drills, and getting all of it in front of your players.

Animated play designer

Draw a play one step at a time, and Elite Hoops animates the cuts, passes, dribbles, and screens in order. Players see where to go and when, instead of decoding a static diagram. Explore the play designer

Drill library

What makes Elite Hoops different

Plenty of apps can draw a basketball play. Elite Hoops differs in where it runs, how players watch, what it costs, and who answers when you need help.

A full web app and native Apple apps

Elite Hoops runs in any modern browser and as a native app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro, with Apple Pencil support on iPad. Buy Pro on the web or in the App Store, and one subscription unlocks both.

Players watch without downloading anything

A share link opens on any phone or computer with no app and no account. Players can watch a play animate, step through it at their own pace, or flip through it as images, and you can turn a link off at any time.

Prices you can see before you buy

Pro is $12.99 a month, $24.99 every three months, or $59.99 a year. For comparison, The Hoops Geek’s Solo plan is $120 a year and FastBreak PlayBook’s individual plan is $150 a year, while Hudl asks FastDraw buyers to contact its sales team for a quote. Team pricing by the team, not the person

A Team Plan starts at $200 a year for one shared team and includes Pro for the plan owner. Everyone you invite joins free, with no seat limit and no per-person fee.

Built and supported by one developer

I build Elite Hoops and answer its support email myself. When you write in, you reach the person who writes the code, and what coaches ask for shapes what I build next.

Who uses Elite Hoops

More than 60,000 coaches, trainers, and parents have set up Elite Hoops since it launched in October 2023, in more than 100 countries and territories. It’s built for basketball coaches at every level:

• Youth and AAU coaches, the largest group, including club directors who run many age-group teams
• Middle school and high school programs, including nearly 1,000 high school programs, from seventh grade through varsity
• College coaching staffs, at NAIA, Division I, Division II, and Division III programs
• Skills trainers, who work with several groups of athletes
• Parents, who help their kids learn plays and concepts at home

I’m the only person who works on Elite Hoops. I’m an independent developer and a basketball dad, and I started it to solve a problem at home.

On September 12, 2022, my son Bennett was having trouble learning a zone press. He’d played year-round since he was four, so he understood the idea, but he didn’t always know where to go. I sketched his assignments on a sheet of paper. The next day he wanted to go over it again, so I drew it all out again on a fresh sheet.

After a few rounds of that, I knew there had to be a better way to teach him. A whiteboard helps, but you redraw everything every time, and Bennett wanted to see the press anytime, anywhere. That night I went into my office and started building Elite Hoops. A few days later, a very small version was up and running.

The first time I showed it to Bennett, something clicked. Once he could see where he and his teammates belonged, he moved everyone around and showed me, correctly, where each player should go no matter where the ball was. We started drawing up all of his plays, and he’d review them before games.

Then I showed it to college coaches in my area, trainers, and youth coaches, and they all asked the same question: “When can I use this?” Elite Hoops launched on the App Store in October 2023.

I want every coach and trainer to have the tools they need to teach the game, and every player to have an easy way to see it, anytime.

Before Elite Hoops, I spent more than a decade building apps for Apple platforms. My budgeting app, Spend Stack, was an App Store App of the Day before it was acquired, and I write about iOS development at Swiftjective-C. I’m also a dad of three kids who all play sports.

2. Go Pro for the full toolkit. Pro adds unlimited teams and playbooks, video, image, and PDF exports, public share links, printable practice plans, your own drill library, and cloud sync across web and Apple devices. It’s $12.99 a month, $24.99 every three months, or $59.99 a year, on the web or in the App Store.
3. Bring in your program with a Team Plan. Team Plans are billed yearly and priced by the number of shared teams, starting at $200. Invite your coaches, players, and parents into a private playbook, and everyone sees the current version without you re-sending anything.

How is Elite Hoops different from FastDraw?

Both apps animate plays. Elite Hoops keeps your playbook alongside practice plans, drills, and shot charts, runs natively on Apple devices, and publishes its prices, while FastDraw pricing comes from Hudl’s sales team.
