About this play
The answer to a defense that switches the downscreen. When the downscreener's defender jumps out to take the screener, the downscreener never sets the screen: he slips straight to the rim before the switch is complete. Switching every screen is the standard way to guard Flex, and this is the first thing that makes a switching defense pay.
