Drill: Post Entry and Relocation 2v0

About this play
Youth and high school teams lose post possessions because the passer freezes after the entry, and this makes pass and move a habit, which is why it is in my practice plan every week. One guard, one post, one ball, and a dummy on the high side of the post standing in for the defender. 5 seals and shows the target hand away from the dummy, so the passer knows which side is open. 1 throws the entry to the hand, not the body, with a bounce or air pass away from the defender's side, and relocates the instant the ball leaves. Read A: the defender sinks toward the post, so 1 cuts to the corner for the kick-out. Read B: the defender stays on 1, so he cuts through the lane for the give-and-go. 5 catches, looks middle first, then scores or kicks to the relocated guard. Six reps per read per side, scoring makes to ten. Mistakes: the guard standing to watch, passing to the defender's side, the post dribbling before he looks. Progression: a live defender on the guard, then a weak-side player to drill the skip. All levels. This one comes from the Jr. NBA's post pass and relocate drill, with the passer reads from Coach's Clipboard's 2-on-2 post drill; give them a look if you want the full cut-through version.
