About this play
Elbow to elbow shooting, in the three-player two-ball Knight version with a one-minute clock: the shooter runs from elbow to elbow, a passer in the free throw circle feeds him on every catch, and a rebounder keeps the passer supplied. Why it works: it is a high volume of game-spot jumpers on the move, with footwork into the catch and conditioning built in, and the two balls mean the shooter never waits. Setup: three players, two balls, tape on both elbows if the floor needs it. The passer counts makes and the rebounder counts attempts; the goal is fifteen makes out of twenty-five attempts in one minute, with a penalty if either number is missed. Then rotate. Mistakes: drifting sideways on the catch, catching flat-footed, a late passer, and a shooter who jogs between elbows. Progression: catch, shot fake, and crossover into the paint for a short jumper for post players, or elbow to wing to elbow to stretch it to twelve feet, or add a one-dribble pull-up. Every level can run it; the two-player, one-ball Clipboard version is sets of ten. I learned this one from Coach's Clipboard's two-man shooting drills and Brian Williams' Knight Shooting Drill write-up on the Coaching Toolbox, and the AvcssBasketball video shows the two-player timed version; give them a look.
