About this play

The game that forces vision and change of pace under chase pressure without the coach ever saying head up, which is why it beats any stationary dribbling drill for kids. Eight to fifteen players, every player with a ball, inside the half court with cones marking the boundary; one or two taggers in pinnies. On go, everyone dribbles; the taggers dribble too and chase. A tagged player becomes it, or in the freeze version keeps dribbling in place until a teammate dribbles around him twice. Leaving the cones, double dribbling, or picking the ball up makes you it. Rotate taggers every two or three minutes and add a weak-hand-only round. Eight to ten minutes; the last player untagged wins the round. Mistakes: staring at the ball, dribbling high, running out of the boundary, standing still to hide from the taggers. Progression: shrink the area to the lane, or split the group by ability with the strong dribblers at one end. Warm-up option: red light, green light from the baseline, with red meaning a jump stop into triple threat while the dribble is kept alive. Youth. I picked this up from Coach's Clipboard's dribble tag drill and Coach Allen's dribble tag game for kids; give them a look for the freeze version.
