About this play

Nine spots sweeping the arc from the right corner to the left corner, two shots at each: a three for three points, then a shot fake, one dribble, and a mid-range pull-up for two. A perfect score is 45, and every player keeps his own total. Why it works: two game shots at every spot on the floor, with the whole team active at one basket and a number next to each player's name. Setup: half the team per basket in a line behind the first shooter, one ball per basket, and a rebounder under the rim; cones are optional, so I draw the first three spots with cones and label the rest. The shooter becomes the rebounder, the rebounder joins the back of the line, and the next shooter is ready before the pass. After everyone shoots a spot, the group moves to the next. Varsity target is 28 (the Clipboard record is 43); below target is push-ups. Mistakes: fading on the three, a flat shot fake, a soft return pass, and players skipping spots. Progression: 3-2-1, which adds a layup for one point at every spot and plays partners. It suits every level; youth shoot the three as a long two. I got this one from Coach's Clipboard's team shooting drills and its youth version of the same page; look them up for the 12 Sets variation.
