About this play
Four groups, four lines just outside the arc, two per side, and every turn is three shots in a row: a three, a mid-range jumper from outside the key, and a shot from inside the key, scored three, two, and one. The shooter rebounds every shot himself, make or miss, passes to the next player in his line, and the group calls its running total after each turn. First group to exactly 31 calls it. Why it works: it is multi-range shooting at a competitive pace with a rebounding habit built into every miss, and the running count makes four groups watch each other's scores. Setup: four even groups of three to five, four balls, no clock; cones at the two wing lines if the floor needs them. Youth move the whole thing in: the elbow is three, outside the key is two, inside is one. Targets of 11, 21, and 41 work for shorter or longer rounds. Mistakes: a wild second shot off a long rebound, groups miscounting, and players from neighboring lines crowding the lane. Progression: 30 and 1, where a group needs ten makes at the block, the elbow, and the arc and then one long game-winner. Every level. This one came from Basketball For Coaches' twenty shooting drills post; look it up for the 30 and 1 rules.
