About this play

The dribble drive against a 2-3 zone, from Coach's Clipboard's Dribble-Drive Zone Offense and Walberg's zone rules. Why the wings are up instead of in the corners: against a 2-3 the gaps are between the two top defenders and between the top and the bottom, so the wings sit at the free throw line extended where the top defenders can't both guard them and a drive. The point guard attacks the top gap with the dribble, the post seals the low middle defender for inside position, and the trailer fills behind as the safety for the pitch. No baseline drives against three low defenders. Walberg's mindset against the zone: no fear to shoot the three, but still key or three, forty-five shots in the key and twenty threes out of sixty-five. Counter shown: the zone stays home and stops the drive at the elbow, so the pitch goes to the trailer, the trailer attacks the other top gap, passes to the wing and runs the loop-2 cut to the corner, and the wing attacks the elbow and feeds the post pinning the low man. Most of this comes from Coach's Clipboard's Dribble-Drive Zone Offense, with Walberg's shot-count mindset from his NABC webinar notes and System Basketball's zone video for the reads; give them a look.
