About this play
The baseline drive from the 2 side and the post rule that makes it safe. Why only 2 drives baseline: on his side the post is opposite, so when 2 drives baseline 5 T's up, sliding into the middle of the paint for the dump or the lob, and the baseline is clear; from the 3 side the post is in the way and the defense traps it, so 3 only goes middle. The point guard who passed to the wing slides to the corner, then kicks back behind the drive as the bail-out; the trailer finds the open window at the top; the opposite corner stays ready to shoot. Counter shown: the scouted defense walls the baseline and sinks the weak-side wing onto the T-up, so 2 keeps going to the short corner and throws the baseline skip to 3 with one hand, even from out of bounds; when X3 recovers, 3 drives middle with the post relocating and 2 filling the corner behind him. The baseline rules are from System Basketball's breakdown and Coach's Clipboard's baseline kick-back drill, and the T-up itself is Walberg's, from the DVD notes on hoopsplaybook.ca; they'll take you deeper than I can here.
