About this play
Attack, attack, skip, attack, attack drawn in full: the first drive is stopped, the pitch goes back to the trailer, the trailer attacks and is stopped, the ball goes to the weak side, and the shooter who caught at the window attacks a double gap at once. Why the second and third attacks score when the first didn't: each drive drags a help defender a step out of position, and the stops add up until one defender is a step too far to recover. Expect the first drive to be stopped; the offense is built to score on the attack that comes after it. The 3 side drives middle only; Walberg does not allow the baseline drive from the 3 side because the defense traps it. Counter shown: the scouted defense shades 3 to the baseline to kill the middle drive, so 3 takes two hard dribbles middle and kicks back to 4 trailing, 4 attacks the lane line 3 vacated, and the post opposite gets the dump when X5 helps. I learned to count attacks this way from Coach's Clipboard's spacing-and-gaps page, and System Basketball's video on double and triple gaps shows it live; give them a look.
