About this play

The entry for a point guard who can't beat his man in the breakdown zone. Why: a sideways dribble at a teammate is not an attack dribble, it is a signal; the rule is that anyone dribbled at back cuts to the rim, so the defense that walls the drive gets beaten by a cut. Coach's Clipboard's One-X set runs it from the top with the trailer: the point passes across and cuts through, the trailer dribbles at the wing, the wing back cuts, and the post relocates to clear the baseline. Counter shown: the scouted defense sits in the lane and refuses the back cut, so the cutter continues to the far corner and the corner man slides up for the dribble handoff instead; the handoff receiver attacks middle with the post sealing for the dump. Rule for the trailer: wait a two-count before rotating, so the point guard always has his chance to attack first. The One-X set is Coach's Clipboard's, the entries came from HoopsKing's Attack the Rim series, and Michael Lynch's Rose series clip is the handoff counter in game film; look them up if you want to go deeper.
