Elite Hoops on iPhone Duo

Elite Hoops is ready for iPhone Duo. I rebuilt the parts of the app coaches use most so they take full advantage of the hardware: a phone-sized screen when the Duo is closed, a much bigger one when it's open, and a screen that splits along the fold when it's partly closed.

The Elite Hoops play designer on an open iPhone Duo, with the court on one side and the frames and tools on the other, next to the same play on a closed Duo.

At a glance:

  • The play designer puts the court on one side and your frames and tools on the other when the Duo is open, and splits across the fold when it's partly closed.
  • Live practice keeps the clocks above the fold and the drill and its controls below it.
  • The digital whiteboard fills the entire inner screen with a full court.
  • Closed, it's the Elite Hoops you already know. Open it back up and your play is right where you left it.

The play designer

Open the Duo and the play designer spreads out. The court gets its own side of the screen. The frame strip, playback, and the frame tools (Players, Timing, Notes, Insert, Duplicate) sit right next to it, with undo, redo, and settings along the edge. Draw a frame, check it, and start the next one without anything covering the court.

Fold it partway and stand it on the bench, and the designer splits along the fold. The court sits on the top half. The scrubber, frames, and tools sit on the bottom half, right under your thumbs.

Running practice

Coaches don't run practice with a phone in their hand. Fold the Duo partway, set it on the scorer's table, and the practice clock and drill timer sit up top where you can read them from the floor. The drill's details, points of emphasis, notes, and links sit below the fold, with Pause and Skip Drill in reach.

Try it out: Open any practice and tap "Run."

The digital whiteboard

Open the Duo flat and the whiteboard uses every inch of the inner screen for a full court. Move players, draw on it, add zone overlays and defenses, or hit record to make a quick video with your own commentary. Half court is one tap away.

That's just the beginning

These three are where coaches spend the most time, so they came first. The rest of the app already fits itself to whatever shape the Duo is in, and I'll keep building for it from here. Elite Hoops is the best coaching experience on iPhone Duo, and it's not even close.
