When iOS 27 ships this fall, Elite Hoops ships with it. The free update, version 2.2.0, is centered around the release's headline technologies.
At a glance:
- A Live Activity runs the whole practice. Current drill, countdown, a progress bar with one segment per drill, and the practice end time, advancing drill to drill on schedule with the phone in a pocket.
- Apple Intelligence builds practice plans from the coach's own saved drills. Completely private, yet powerful AI that leverages important context about each coach's drills and preferences by leveraging Apple's private cloud compute.
- Siri finds plays, drills, and practices and lands them directly in the app's search results. It also knows what Elite Hoops is showing on screen, so you can ask questions about your plays, drills and practices.
Practice runs from the Lock Screen
Coaches don't hold practices sitting down, they're on the move. And now our live practice feature works with how practices are actually run, using a brand new Live Activity. It shows the drill that's running right now with its icon, the countdown on that drill, a progress bar with one segment per drill in the plan, and "Ends 5:30 PM" so coaches know right where things are at:
Try it out: In Elite Hoops, simpy tap "Run" from any practice you open.
Every state reads from across the gym
The card carries a semantic color at all times: orange while a drill runs, yellow when the coach pauses for a water break, green when it's time to bring the team in. A coach standing at the far baseline can read the state of practice off a phone sitting on the scorer's table.
Apple Intelligence, grounded in the coach's own drills
Our Smart Practice Builder is used to build nearly 60% of practices made in Elite Hoops, and now it's better than ever. Elite Hoops now builds the plan with Apple Intelligence, using only drills from that coach's saved library. This means every coach gets a personalized plan, built around their preferences and favorite drills, and customized to any type of practice (tryouts, skill level, player age, and more):
Try it out: In the Practices tab, create a new practice using the Instant Practice Builder on any Apple Intelligence enabled device.
Siri knows the playbook
With iOS 27, Siri knows all about your playbook, drills, teams, and practices. With Elite Hoops open, you can ask questions like "Which play would work well with a tall player when inbounding the ball" — and Siri will analyze what you've got, and pick the best one:
Try it out: In Elite Hoops, ask Siri any question about your playbook when it's open.
Or, simply ask Siri no matter if you're in Elite Hoops or not. Phrases like "Find my transition defense drills in Elite Hoops." will land coaches directly in the app's search with results waiting. It works for plays, drills, and practices, so the set installed in October is one sentence away in February.
Finally, coaches can build powerful shortcuts using several new actions to make workflows even faster using Apple's Shortcuts app:
Availability
Everything above arrives with the free Elite Hoops update when iOS 27 ships this fall. Elite Hoops is developed as a fully native app for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro, and iOS 27's technologies are adopted here in a way no other basketball app is even trying.
