About this practice
An hour of individual guard work in the European pattern: not one practice but a menu, for an off day or the hour before team practice. The balance shooting routine the best guards never skip, the hesitation series taught as a read, the floater and the reverse, partner passing with the dribble, two-ball control, game shots counted by makes and then shot with heavy legs on purpose, and the chair reads off a pin-down. Stop and create contact on the chase, the finish European guards are known for. Bring the youngest player along with the best one; the attention teaches more than the drill. The whole workout is Igor Kokoškov's FIBA clinic on drills for guards, Steve Nash's balance routine included; watch it once and you will run guard workouts differently.
