About this practice
Transition defense the way it is taught in the EuroLeague, where a foul that stops the break is punished with free throws and the ball, so sprinting back has to be a skill. The roles are decided before the shot: two to the offensive glass, one back as the safety, two against a running team. The safety does not press the rebounder; he is across the midline in three seconds, takes the ball alone, and denies the middle. Then the two-on-two with the wall touch that teaches delay, five on five that concedes the outlet and attacks the second pass, the one place a team goes under a ball screen on purpose, and the live version where the defense sprints to stop the ball early and gives up the transition shot but never the paint. The roles, the safety rules, and stopping the second pass are Svetislav Pešić's, from his FIBA transition defense clinic, and the wall-touch drill is Ana Mónica Rodríguez's, from the Melilla federation's transition-defense paper; start with the clinic.
