About this play

The three-point look from the same box, Coach's Clipboard's "Gator" and Teach Hoops' elevator with its counter. On the handoff the ball-side elbow back-screens the weak elbow's defender and the weak elbow cuts to the rim as the decoy; the two posts step up from the blocks shoulder to shoulder with a gap between them, the shooter sprints up through the gap, and the posts close the doors behind him for the catch-and-shoot at the top. Why the decoy cut first: a cut to the rim pulls the help and makes the posts stepping up look like a reaction, not a screen. The read is X2: trailing into the doors means shoot; going under means keep curling to the wing. The counter, from Teach Hoops, is for the defense that has seen it and cheats X2 over the top toward the shooter: 2 sells the elevator cut relaxed, hesitates, and bursts backdoor to the rim while the inbounder looks at the top first and turns late to deliver the pass inside. Common mistakes: the doors closing before the shooter clears, the shooter arriving early, and the inbounder's eyes giving the counter away. I wrote this one up in the Box Set for Shooters post on the site, with a video to match; the elevator itself I learned from Coach's Clipboard's Gator and the backdoor counter from Teach Hoops.
