About this practice
The evening of a preseason double day, when the team's defense gets installed. The tactical base goes in during the first two weeks, and those weeks run at the level of basics on purpose. This session is the defensive base. The concentration warm-up and the stretch, then the ten-minute footwork review and the close-out from help. The shell gets built in five phases, and the shooter colors turn the scouting report into one word. After the water break it is the transition ball screen defended two on two, three-on-two from the box-out, shrink and spread, and the game to fifteen where only two stops and a scored break earn the ball. Every drill rotates offense, defense, out, like the game. The defensive drills are Ettore Messina's, from his FIBA clinic on his favorite drills; the shooter colors are Saša Obradović's, from his Red Star preseason session; the five-minute game is Dimitris Itoudis's; and the two-weeks rule is Željko Obradović's, from his Basketball Sphere interview. Give the clinics a look.
