Shooting and Dribbling

Give players a heads up of what you'll cover this practice. Emphasize focus areas and set expectations.

Players jog while lifting their knees high toward their chest with each step. This helps activate the hip flexors and improve coordination.

Players jog forward to the opposite baseline, then backpedal to the starting position. This helps to gradually warm up the legs and improve coordination.

Players stand in one spot and work through a series of ball-handling moves: crossovers, between the legs, behind the back, and in-and-out dribbles. Focus on keeping the head up and controlling the ball.

Players pair up and play 1-on-1, but the offensive player must use changes of pace and direction to get past the defender. Focus on quick acceleration after each change of direction.

Players stand close to the basket and focus on perfect shooting form, emphasizing their shooting mechanics. The goal is to create muscle memory for proper shooting technique.

Allow players to hydrate and rest at predetermined times during practice to prevent fatigue and dehydration.

Players simulate fast break situations, sprinting the length of the court before pulling up for a jump shot. This drill works on conditioning and shooting under pressure.

Players shoot from designated spots on the court (e.g., elbows, corners, wings). This drill focuses on consistency and repetition from key shooting areas.

Players dribble and change direction based on a defender's movements. The defender randomly applies pressure, and the offensive player must react with the appropriate dribble move.

All players dribble within a confined area while trying to knock others' balls away without losing control of their own. The last player remaining wins.

Players take shots from designated spots around the key. Successful shots allow them to advance; missed shots require them to try again or 'chance it' to continue.
