Drill: Deny and Jump to the Ball

Three defenders in lines under the baseline, three offense standing still, the coach beside 1 with the ball: the coach passes to 2 on the left wing and X2 sprints to close out on the ball, because the whole drill starts on the first pass.
X1 sprints into deny on 1, one pass away: a step up the line toward the ball, hand in the passing lane, chest to his man, eyes over his shoulder; X3 sprints to help on the lane line, two passes away, because the help line is where the lob and the drive both get stopped.
The coach checks all three stances and calls ball back; 2 passes it back to him, and nobody moves yet, because the point is to move on the next pass, not to guess it.
The coach passes to 1 at the top: X1 closes out on the ball while X2 and X3 both jump up the line into deny, because with the ball at the top both wings are one pass away.
1 passes to 3 on the right wing, the mirror of the first catch: X3 closes out, X1 denies 1 up the line, X2 sprints to the help line, because every catch moves all three; after three catches the defenders have shown every spot and the next three come up.
