Drill: Dribble Tag
1 is the
tagger
1
2
3
4
Cones mark the boundary and every player has a ball. 1 is the tagger and goes after 2; everyone dribbles with their eyes up and off the ball, because a dribbler watching the ball never sees the tagger coming.
1 turns and chases 3, and 3 escapes with a change of pace and a crossover, because the game rewards the dribbler who changes speed and direction, not the one who runs in a straight line.
4 stops dribbling to hide near the baseline cone and 1 tags him; standing still to avoid a tagger is the first habit the game breaks, which is why stopping the dribble counts as a tag too.
4 is now it and chases 2; 1 dribbles away with his weak hand, because the round only works if the tagger changes often and every player gets chased.
Anyone who leaves the cones, double dribbles, or picks the ball up becomes it; after two or three minutes the coach names new taggers and the round resets, because the game is over when the dribbling gets careless.
