Ball in the left slot with 1: X1 steps up on the ball forcing sideline, X2 slides a step up the line to deny 2, X3 denies the corner, and X4 drops to the help line with one foot in the lane, because the ball is above the free throw line.
1 passes to 2 in the right slot and all four defenders move while the ball is in the air: X2 closes out, X1 drops into deny, X4 comes up to deny the corner, and X3 sprints to the help line, because a defender who moves on the catch is already late.
2 passes to 4 in the right corner: X4 closes out with the outside foot back to force baseline, X2 denies up the line, and X1 and X3 straddle the help line, because the ball is below the free throw line now and the helpers have to be closer to the rim.
4 skips it to 3 in the left corner: X3 sprints from the help line to a closeout, X4 sprints to the help line, X1 drops to deny 1, and X2 slides to the help line, because the skip is the pass that exposes a lazy helper.
3 brings the ball back to 1 and the first picture resets: X1 on the ball, X2 and X3 in deny, X4 on the help line. Hold every catch three seconds so the coach can fix feet, reverse the ball twice, then go live; the point is to earn the stop with position, not reaches.
