The 2-3 high: 1 and 2 in the slots, 3 and 4 at the wings extended to the free-throw line, 5 at the nail. 1 passes to 3, because the high-post offense is entered with the wing pass and everything else keys off it.
Both guards cut inside to just below the blocks and 5 steps out to the top, because the turn-out needs the lane empty and the center on the arc before anyone screens.
3 passes to 5 at the top, because the center is the passer in this offense and a center who can catch on the arc and shoot keeps his defender from sagging into the screens.
3 and 4 down screen for the guards, no lower than the free-throw line extended, because a down screen set too low lets the defender go under and the turn-out needs the shooter to arrive on the arc.
1 and 2 criss-cross under the rim and turn out off the screens to the wings. The read is the defender on the turn-out: X1 jumps over the top of 4's screen to overplay 1 on the right wing, because the scouting report says this team denies every turn-out.
Counter: 1 plants on the wing and back cuts to the rim behind X1, because an overplayed turn-out is a back cut by rule, and the forward who screened for him has cleared the lane.
Counter finished: 5 throws the bounce pass from the top to 1 at the rim, because the center on the arc has the angle to every back cut and the help has been pulled to the other wing by 2.
1 finishes the layup; the turn-out gave the defense a shooter to overplay and the back cut was the price, which is why Carril said a team that denies everything gives up layups.
