Drill: Wing 1v1 Roll-Out
X1 rolls the
ball out to 1
1
X
Pairs wait at the top. X1 starts inside with the ball and rolls it out to 1 at the wing, because a rolled ball makes a live catch and gives the defender a real closeout to make instead of a staged one.
X1 closes out as 1 catches in triple threat: short chopping steps, hands high, weight back, because a defender who flies past on the closeout has given up the drive before it starts.
1 rips through and attacks the closeout's lead foot at once with the first of his three dribbles, going baseline; X1 slides to cut him off, because the catch is the moment the offense has the advantage and waiting gives it back.
Dribbles two and three take 1 to the rim with X1 recovering on his hip; the limit is the point, otherwise the drill becomes a slow back-down that teaches nothing about the catch.
1 goes up for the layup with X1 contesting straight up and not fouling, because a defensive foul is a point for the offense in this scoring.
X1 turns and boxes out between 1 and the rim while 1 tries to crash; there are no second shots, so the box out is the last point of the rep: a make scores, an offensive rebound scores, and then the pair switches roles at the other wing.
