Four out, four defenders on the baseline, the coach with the ball: the coach passes to 1 in the right corner and X1 closes out hard while X2, X3, and X4 step to the pack line in their gaps, two feet inside the line, because the pack line is where help lives and a helper outside it is useless.
1 holds a two count with everyone calling one more, then passes to 2 on the wing: X2 closes out and X1 jumps and swipes into the gap, jumping toward the ball and swiping the inside hand through the lane, ending a step closer to the ball than his man in an open stance, because the swipe is how a gap defender stays a threat to the next pass.
2 passes across to 3 on the left wing: X3 closes out, X2 jumps and swipes to the gap, and X1, now two passes away, slides to the help line, because two passes away the job is the rim, not the man.
3 passes to 4 in the far corner: X4 closes out with the outside foot back, X3 jumps to the gap, and X1 and X2 both sit on the help line, because the ball is below the free throw line and the help has to be able to stop a drive with its feet.
The coach calls live and 4 attacks; baseline is not allowed, so X4 turns him middle and X3 stunts at the drive and recovers to his man, because a stunt stops the ball without leaving a shooter. No straight line, no baseline, and the stop counts; three in a row is a kill.
