Drill: Zig-Zag Slides (Z-Drill)
Dribbler
zig-zags,
defender stays
in front
1
X1
Five cones up the left third: 1 dribbles from the corner cone toward the second cone at a controlled speed while X1 slides to stay in front with his nose on the ball, because the drill is about feet, not steals.
1 crosses over at the cone and heads back to the sideline; X1 drop-steps the trail foot, pushes off the lead foot, and slides without crossing his feet, because a crossed foot is a lost step.
Crossover again and back toward the middle cone; X1 stays low, chin over his knees, hands wide, because tired players stand up here and that is exactly when the dribbler gets by.
1 gets a step on the last crossover; X1 does not shuffle beside him, he turns and sprints past the ball and re-establishes in front, because running is the only way to get back in front once you are beaten.
X1 contains the ball at the last cone and the pair switch roles for the trip back, because each player needs two full trips as the dribbler and two as the defender before the lines reset.
