The two-guard front: 1 and 2 in the slots, 3 and 4 at the wings, 5 on the ball-side block. 1 passes to 3, because every Princeton possession starts with a pass and the pass starts the first read.
3 looks to reverse the ball to 1 and X1 steps up into the passing lane to deny it; the read is made for both of them, because a denied guard is about to be dribbled at.
3 dribbles straight at X1's baseline cheek and 1 stands still, because the rule says the receiver does not move until the ball has bounced once at him; a defender focused on the dribble has stopped watching his man.
The ball bounces once and 1 back cuts hard to the rim; 2 slides over to the top to be the safety. The scouted adjustment is X5, who leaves 5 on the block and steps up to meet the cutter, so the bounce pass that would have been a layup is gone.
1 finishes the cut to the rim anyway and comes back out on the ball side to the left corner, because a cut that is not fed still empties the lane and a back cut from the top always exits strong side.
3 keeps his dribble and now dribbles at 2 at the top. The scouting report says this defense drops on every dribble-at to wait for the back cut, and X2 does, so the second half of the rule applies: a sagging defender means come for the handoff.
Counter: 2 steps to the ball to take the dribble handoff instead of cutting, because X2 is under the arc and a handoff with the dribbler's body between them is a screen he cannot get through.
Counter continued: 3 hands the ball to 2 and his body becomes the screen, because the handoff is a pass and a screen at once and 2 catches it already moving downhill.
2 turns the corner into the lane and 5 seals X5 high on his hip, because the helper who stepped up to take the first back cut is now behind the post; X5 has to choose the ball or the block.
X5 steps to the ball, so 2 drops the bounce pass to 5 sealing under him, because the seal was the post's answer to the help and the pass is thrown the moment the helper commits.
5 finishes at the rim; one denial, two dribble-ats, a back cut, and a handoff moved three defenders without a single screen, which is why the dribble-at is taught before any set.
