Drill: Post Seal and Catch vs a Defender
coaches at
both wings
1

3
X1
Coaches 2 and 3 at both wings, the ball with 2. 1 steps across the lane and attacks X1's spot, lead leg between the defender's feet, sitting into him low and wide, because the seal is won with the legs, not the arms.
1 shows the baseline target hand and calls for it, but 2 reverses the ball to 3 instead, so the seal is tested: 1 holds contact until the pass is overhead and never stands up to look.
X1 fights over the top to get ball side and 1 spins and re-seals toward 3, keeping X1 pinned on his back, because releasing contact for even a step is what lets a defender front the post.
3 reverses the ball back to 2 at the right wing; the coaches pass five times in a rep, so the post learns to re-seal on every reversal without anyone telling him to.
1 spins again and re-seals on the right side with X1 still on his back and the baseline hand up as the target, because the hand tells the passer which side of him is open.
After the fifth pass 2 feeds 1 at the target hand. 1 catches on a two-foot jump stop and chins the ball, so he has either pivot foot and the ball is away from the defender's reach.
1 drop steps baseline with one power dribble and X1 can only trail; the finish is simple because the seal did the work before the catch.
1 finishes off two feet off the glass, then the posts switch roles, because the defender needs the same reps at sealing that the scorer just got.
