Drill: 45 Shooting
spot 1 of 9:
three, then
two
1
2
3
Spot one, the right corner: 1 has the ball and shoots the three for three points while 3 waits behind him in the line and 2 rebounds, because the drill is game-speed catch and shoot, not a warm-up jumper.
2 drops under the rim for the rebound; a soft or slow return pass is the drill's most common mistake, so the rebounder is already turning to throw as he catches it.
The ball comes off the rim to 2 while 1 stays in the corner with his hands up, because the second shot comes from the same spot and the shooter who wanders has to reset his feet.
2 fires it back out to 1 in the corner, hard and to the pocket, so the shot fake that follows starts from a shooting position and looks real.
1 shot-fakes and takes one straight-line dribble in to the mid-range, the coaching point being a believable fake, eyes to the rim and ball to the set point, because a flat fake moves nobody and the pull-up is then contested.
1 pulls up balanced for two points, five if he made both; the point is to land where he took off, otherwise the fade turns a game shot into a guess.
Rotation with no dead time: 1 becomes the rebounder and runs to the rim, 2 jogs to the back of the line, and 3 steps up to the corner spot, because the next shooter has to be ready before the ball is.
1 comes up with the ball and passes it out to 3 in the corner, so the new shooter catches in rhythm instead of waiting; after everyone shoots this spot the whole group moves to spot two, the short wing.
3 shoots his three from spot one; each player keeps his own running total toward 45, which is why the drill works at the end of practice: nobody can hide behind a team score.
