Drill: Three-Man Weave (Half Court)
weave: run
behind the man
you pass to
1
2
3
1 in the middle chest passes to 2 on the right, calling his name, and 3 is already moving up the left side, because every pass in the weave is thrown to a man who is running, not standing.
1 sprints behind 2 toward the right sideline, never in front of him, so the lane for the next pass stays open and the three never cross paths.
2 passes across to 3, two hands, no dribble, and 1 keeps running up the right side to be ahead of the ball, which is why the pass after this one can be thrown ahead of him.
2 sprints behind 3 to the left side; the point is that the passer runs harder than the ball travels, otherwise he is behind the play when his turn to catch comes.
3 passes ahead to 1 on the right, out in front of him so he catches on the run, because a pass thrown behind a runner stops the weave dead.
3 sprints behind 1 and 2 cuts to the rim as the finisher, hand up and calling for it, so the passer knows where the third pass goes before he turns.
The third pass is a bounce pass to the cutter, 1 to 2, because a cutter catches a bounce pass low and in stride instead of having to gather a chest pass on the way up.
2 lays it in and 1 rebounds out of the net; the group fills the lines and the next three go, because the weave is a warmup and the pace, not the count, is what it is for.
