Horns out of the timeout: 4 and 5 at the elbows, 2 the shooter in the right corner, 3 in the left corner, 1 with the ball. Why Chicago out of Horns: the elbow who catches is already next to the pin-down, and the corner shooter is already behind it.
5 pops from the right elbow to the right slot and 1 passes him the ball; 1 cuts through to the left wing. Why the entry to the big: the handoff is his, and a big with the ball at the slot is a big the defense sags off.
1 passes to 5 at the slot and the defense sags; 3 lifts out of the left corner. Why the pass and not a dribble handoff from the point: the ball has to be in the big's hands before the shooter moves.
4 cuts from the left elbow across to the right block and sets a pin-down on X2, the shooter's defender in the corner. Why the pin-down comes from the other elbow: it arrives from the lane, where X2 is not looking.
1 clears to the left wing after his entry pass. Why 1 clears: the handoff side needs the point's defender out of the lane, and a wing fill takes him there.

The counter: 5 dribbles at 2 as if to hand off, keeps the ball, and drives past X2, who jumped to the handoff, into the lane; 2 continues through to the wing. Why the fake handoff beats the cheat: Coach's Clipboard's note on the Celtics play is that the fake works once the defenders cheat toward the handoff, because a defender leaning to the handoff cannot stop the drive behind it.
5 finishes at the rim off the fake handoff. Score. Why the counter is in the same play: Chicago is a handoff, and the one thing a defense can do about a handoff is cheat to it.
