The two cubes are the chairs, one at each elbow extended where a down screen would be set. 1 cuts under the basket to the right block and 2, the next in line, steps to the left slot as the passer, because the cutter sets the screen up by walking his imaginary defender down first.
Read one, the curl: 1 changes pace and comes off the right chair tight, shoulder brushing it, staying low with his hands up early, so the pass can arrive the instant he clears the screen; rounding the curl wide gives the trailing defender a lane to recover.
2 passes to where 1 will be, not where he is, hitting him as he comes off the curl, because a pass thrown after the cutter arrives lets the defender catch up.
1 catches inside foot first, squares in the air, and shoots the curl jumper, the point being that the feet are set on the catch, otherwise the shot off movement becomes a shot off balance.
Rotation: 1 chases his rebound, 2 becomes the cutter and walks his defender down toward the left block, going around the outside of the left chair, and 3 steps to the right slot as the new passer, so the line keeps moving and both chairs get used.
1 outlets the rebound to 3 at the right slot and then jogs to the back of the line, because the passer always has the ball before the cutter starts his move.
Read two, the flare, the counter when the defender cheats over the top of the screen: 2 plants his inside foot above the left chair and pushes out behind it to the left wing, and 1 returns to the top of the line, so the cutter is widening away from the ball instead of curling into it.
3 throws the skip pass to 2 on the flare; a flare catch is a skip-type pass, because the ball has to travel over the screen while the shooter is still getting his feet set.
2 catches inside foot first and shoots the flare jumper; the drill runs a minute or two per read before the players start choosing, which is why it teaches reading a screen and not just running off one.
