Drill: Two-Line Layups
shooting line,
two balls
1
2
3
1 dribbles from the right wing with the right hand, outside the arc to start, so the approach is long enough to reach game speed, and the dribbling hand matches the layup hand.
Right-hand layup off the left foot, outside-inside footwork, high off the glass; the point is a finish at full speed, because a layup practiced at a jog is a layup missed in a game.
2 steps in from the rebounding line and catches the make out of the net before it hits the floor, while 3 moves up to the front of the shooting line, so the drill never has a dead second.
The ball is 2's: he chins it and turns to find the next shooter, and 3 is already cutting toward the rim with his hand up, because the next shooter never waits for the rebounder to look.
2 throws a bounce pass to the cutter, not a chest pass, so 3 catches it low and in stride; 1 jogs to the end of the rebounding line, which is why the lines stay even.
3 takes one dribble with the right hand into the layup and 2 jogs to the end of the shooting line, because the rebounder becomes a shooter and the shooter becomes a rebounder every rep.
Right-hand layup; after a few minutes the lines swap sides for left-hand layups, and the two-minute make goal keeps everyone moving, otherwise the lines creep in and the drill turns into standing around.
