Drill: Celtic (Two in a Row)
2:00 clock:
two in a row
to move
1
2
Clock at 2:00. 2 feeds 1 in the right corner; 1 catches with the inside foot and squares in a shot-ready stance, because the drill is nine spots in two minutes and every wasted catch is a spot he will not reach.
1 shoots the first of two; a make here means nothing yet, so the shooter treats it like any other rep rather than the first half of a streak.
Make, one in a row. 2 steps under the rim to take the ball out of the net, because the rebounder's speed is the shooter's clock: a slow collection costs the shooter a spot.
The ball comes out of the net to 2 while 1 stays in the corner and resets his feet, because he needs a second straight make from the same spot before he can leave it.
2 passes back to 1 in the same corner, a crisp pass to the pocket, so the second shot has the same catch as the first.
1 shoots the second; the coaching point is the same rhythm as shot one, because the shooter who speeds up after a make is the one who misses the second and has to start the spot over.
Two in a row, the spot is cleared. 2 goes under the rim for the ball, and 1 knows he is moving before the ball comes down, so the sprint starts the instant the shot is good.
The ball comes down to 2 and 1 sprints to the right wing, the second cone, running to the spot and not toward the ball, because a shooter who drifts toward the pass catches moving and shoots off balance.
2 passes ahead to 1 at the wing so the ball and the shooter arrive together; from here it is top, left wing, left corner, then back across to the start, nine spots in all.
1 shoots at the wing, chasing two in a row again; if he clears all nine spots before 2:00 he goes to the top and counts threes until the horn, which is why the varsity record on the Clipboard page is a spot number, not a time.
