1 at the top with the ball, the line behind him, coach 2 at the right wing, the chair at the left slot as the screener. 1 passes to the coach, because the flare starts with a pass and never with a shooter standing still.
1 takes one step toward the ball, so the imagined defender turns to follow the pass; a flare run without that step lets the defender see the screen coming.
1 flares behind the chair to the left wing with his hands ready, running his shoulder past it, because the screener's back faces the spot he is flaring to and a wide path gives the defender the lane under the screen.
2 skips the pass over the top to the wing, thrown as 1 clears the chair, so the ball and the shooter arrive at the same moment.
1 catches on the inside foot with his feet already set and shoots, because a shooter who is still drifting on the catch has given back the space the flare created.
