Drive, Drift & Kick

Instructions
Create a paint touch, then turn it into a clean perimeter look. In this 3-player advantage drill, the ball handler attacks from the slot, the weak-side wing drifts into the open passing window, and the corner stays low and shot-ready. Begin unguarded to teach timing, then add help defenders so players learn to read the kick-out instead of running a pattern.

Emphasis
• Attack downhill with eyes on the rim; make the help defender commit. • Drift when the driver gets to the paint — arrive as the pass arrives. • Keep the corner filled to stretch help and create a true kick-out. • Catch on balance, ready to shoot or make the next simple pass. • Sprint into every rep at game speed; no jogging through the read.
Notes
SETUP Use three players, one ball, and two cones at the slots. Start with one defender at the nail; add a second defender in the corner once the timing is sharp. FLOW 1. The ball handler drives from the slot and forces the nail defender to help. 2. The weak-side wing drifts into the driver’s vision and receives the kick-out. 3. The corner stays spaced for the next pass or a catch-and-shoot finish. PROGRESSION Add live closeouts after the kick-out. Award one point for a paint touch and one more for a made open shot. First group to seven wins.
